He had a long career but in the UK will always be remebered for his role as host of quiz show Blockbusters. The show was really for children and young people but it attracted audiences of all age groups.
The show involved the contestants taking a letter or sequence of letters and answering a question. The immortal words, "I'll have a P Bob" followed Mr Holness for years. Holness hosted Blockbusters for ten years. The show ended in 1993 but re runs still air.
The majority of his career was spent working on the Radio. Here he became the second man to play James Bond, starring in the radio version of Moonraker.
South African born Bob is survived by his wife Mary, three children and seven grandchildren.
