With the ship's Captain looking at possible manslaughter charges other revelations are gradually being released. This weekend the company that owns the Costa Concordia cast doubts over the state of mind of the Captain. If there was even the slightest doubt about his stability he should never have been in charge of a rowing boat let along a giant cruise liner. It has been reported that Captain Schettino, in a call 23 minutes after the cruise liner hit rocks, said ''I messed up. We have touched the bottom (of the sea)."
Ultimately though speculation should be minimised. It will jeopardise the chance of a fair trial for the Captain and cause relatives additional concerns.
23 people remain unaccounted for on the Costa Concordia. RIP
January 24, update: Another body has been found bringing the total recovered to 16. Oil workers are standing by to begin syphoning of the cruise liner's fuel but rough seas look set to cause delays.
