The G8 countries comprise of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States. The Big Cheeses of the Industrialised World. The leaders of the these countries meet on a fairly regular basis to discuss World Affairs, conflicts, terrorism, economies and what you will. Each event costs a small fortune due to associated travel costs, expenses, security and the like. It is laughable that at times they discuss the environment and the detrimental effect that modern lifestyles often have on the World.

It is also ironic that these same leaders keep doling out austerity measures to the people whilst they take part in such expensive meetings. Meetings which it must be said are often worthless. If they were not would the World be in the sorry state that it is today?

This weekend the G8 leaders meet again, this time in the USA. The meeting is scheduled for May 19 and 20, and was to be held in Chicago. The venue has been moved to Camp David by President Obama.

There is of course usually some protesters out in force. That is now par for the course. Perhaps this time there will be fewer protesters but the chances are that there will be more. After all since the last time these leaders met economic recessions have deepened and unemployment levels increased. Is Camp David the choice of venue to make sure protesters are kept well away from the leaders? It does seem that lately our beloved leaders are all trying to move themselves well away from the people. Perhaps this is due to threats but it makes them less accessible and less of the people. It confirms what most of us believe and that is that leaders feel they are Elite.

We shall report on events as they happen but it seems only fair that we open the G8 summit weekend talking about austerity. It is about time these leaders practised what they preached. Austerity? If it is necessary it is necessary for ALL.
