The UK has and does prove a sanctuary for those fleeing oppression and more but this generosity has been abused by too many.
Qatada is wanted for terrorism charges in Jordan. He was at one time referred to as Osama Bin Laden's right hand man. In January 2012 the EHRC ruled that, "Qatada could not be sent back to Jordan without promises that the evidence gained through torture would not be used"
Today Qatada was arrested by the UK Border Agency. This it seems would indicate that Home Secretary Theresa May is confident this time that he can be deported. The January ruling was up for appeal by the UK government and the deadline for this is midnight tonight. Media reports claim that Ms May now has sufficient guarantees from the Jordanian authorities to make deportation possible. Qatata however will be able to lodge an appeal which would delay the actual removal of him from the UK further.
It seems that Mr Qatada is going nowhere in a hurry, nor any time soon.
