Many football pundits had predicted that Harry Redknapp would be the next manager of the England football squad. Is it coincidence then that today's breaking news is that Capello has resigned, just a few short hours after Harry Redknapp was cleared of wrong doing as far as tax evasion charges went?

Officially Fabio challenged the FAs decision to remove John Terry as England captain, before he had had his day in court. Many people, and presumably Capello, saw this as unjust. It smacked of a kangaroo court as, in the UK, a person is innocent until they are proven guilty.

David Davies a former FA chairman told Sky News that,  "I think it is very sad in one way, but perhaps it was inevitable. I talked privately with a number of people and I said: "Where is the common ground, where is the compromise between his stated view that the decision on Terry was wrong and the FA's view?'"

The FA have confirmed his resignation is effective immediately. He had been due to leave later in the year. This leaves the squad without a manager and  the European Championship finals in Poland and Ukraine on the horizen.
