It has already emerged that he was finally willing to do a deal, to enable him to flee Libya, about a week before his death. It is also known that CIA and MI6 forces where leading rebels on the ground as they fought to gain full control of Libya.

Today it has emerged that 53 Libyan Gaddafi loyalists were executed about a week ago.The Human Rights Watch (HRW), reveled that 53 bodies were found in a hotel in Sirte. All had their hands bound and appeared to have been executed.
Of course, when Gaddafi and his cronies carried out such acts the World condemned the actions and used it to launch a conflict. How they will view the actions of the new rulers of Libya is not yet clear. This writer has said many times that it is no good exusing the behaviour of those you support, unless you want to set a precedent for such behaviour.
It is now abundantly clear that atrocities were carried out by both sides in the Libyan uprising. As some Western countries helped the rebels take hold, they must be complicit in the atrocities and accept some blame. As the net closed in on Gaddafi code words were used to pinpoint his location, for those who ultimately killed him.
It is not about judging the old regime anymore but about how the new regime will deal with ex Gaddafi loyalists and prove themselves a fitting replacement for the old guard. As yet they have simply proved they operate in the same way. Yesterday's Liberation celebrations had many speeches about the time to make peace, and that is what they must do with each other.
