The CGI movie Happy Feet was great fun. It gave a new generation a love of penguins. These cute birds, reminiscent at times of old men in tuxedos are certainly adorable. To many people all penguins are now Happy Feet.

Washed up in a sorry state in June 2011, on the shores of New Zealand he was far from home.
An Emperor Penguin, he needed surgery to remove 3kilos of sand from his stomach. He has since been recovering at Wellington Zoo. His army of fans visited the zoo last week to bid him adieu.
This morning Happy Feet was released from the research vessel Tangora. This was done about 50 miles north of Campbell Island. The penguin now faces a long swim home across the Southern Ocean to reach home in Antarctica. Good luck Happy Feet
