Earlier this week it was reported that some Tory MPs had lobbied a motion in parliament requesting a referendum on the UK's membership of the European Union.

Before such a referendum is to reach the UK voting public it is up to parliament's politicians to debate the matter and vote on whether or not to hold a referendum. Sounds to this writer like an expensive waste of time, especially when she read today that all of the main political parties will vote AGAINST the motion.

In other words they will be simply paying lip service to the people whilst having no intention of letting the people decide.

Some politicians are adamant that they will vote following their conscience. However, if that means that they vote in favour of a referendum their parlimentary career will no doubt be over.

As the three main parties all say that they will recommend their politicians vote NO it seems a waste of tax payers time and money to me, to even put the motion through parliament. Of course one has to suppose that politicians need something to do in parliament and it will help them pass the time as they live of the fat of the land.

The Parliament vote is to be held on Monday October 24, 2011 and No 10 Downing Street has left a way open for Cameron and his cabinet to table their own amendment. Watch this space....
