On Christmas day 2011 bomb attacks in Nigeria killed Roman Catholics as they attended churches around the country. At least 42 people were killed and around 90,000 have been displaced. The Islamist militant sect Boko Haram claimed responsibility and further problems have followed.
Today, Friday December 30, 2011 a bomb has exploded in the area around a Mosque in the northern Nigerian city of Maiduguri. As Friday prayers ended today and people began to file out of the Mosque the bombers hit. Boko Haram, have again admitted responsibility.
A spokesperson has said that today's bomb attack was a major incident and there were casualties. There may also have been loss of life.
Boko Haram means "western education is forbidden". The sect wants to impose strict Sharia law on the people of Nigeria.
