One of the leading light's of the sixties folk music scene has died at the age of 67.Bert Jansch was a founder member of the band Pentangle. He was classed at the time as in the league of American musician Bob Dylan if not even his musical equal.

Jansch was born Herbert Jansch in Glasgow on November 3, 1943. During his long career he released 23 solo albums, the last of which, The Black Swan,  in 2006, featured collaborations with curent musical greats Beth Orton and Devendra Banhart.

Many renowned musicians are happy to acknowledge that they were influenced by Bert Jansch. This list includes Paul Simon, Jimmy Page and Donovan.

Hearing of his death tool me back to the mid sixties when Pentagle appeared at Hull City Hall. As a teenager back then I loved their performance. Times change and sadly we all age. Bert had continued to remain an influential musical force to succesive generations ignoring the passge of time.

He died following a period of ill health due to cancer.
