A dedicated website holds details of the organised pillow fights going on today around the world. Citizens of places such as Atlanta and Austin in the US as wel as countries including Spain, Switzerland, Canada, the UK, Belgium and more will be fighting hard today albeit in a friendly way for once.
The event has been going strong since 2008 gathering support and gradually involving more people and places. It is organised by the Urban Playground Movement. The website says:
"All over the world, groups like us organize free, fun, all ages, public events. From a massive Mobile Clubbing event in a London train station to a giant pillow fight near the Eiffel Tower in Paris to a subway party beneath the streets of Toronto, it is clear that the urban playground is growing around the world, leaving more public and more social cities in its wake. This is the urban playground movement, a playful part of the larger public space movement. One of our goals is to make these unique happenings in public space become a significant part of popular culture, partially replacing passive, non-social consumption experiences like watching television, and consciously celebrating public spaces in our cities as our “urban living rooms.” The result, we hope, will be a global community of participants in a world where people are constantly organizing and attending these happenings in every major city in the world. This project, Pillow Fight Day 2012, is a collaboration of many people who comprise a loose, decentralized network of urban playground event organizers all over the world"
My one spanner in the works for today is, please make sure that you do not use down feather pillows, Having written on the sorry state of animal welfare for many of the birds whose down is used for such products try and boycott Down. With so many man made alternatives it is not necessary. In truth you are unable to ascertain just which Down Farm the feathers have come from and the level of animal welfare.
Other than that spolier I hope everyone has some frivolous, child like, fun. We all need that sometimes. Will this blogger be joining in? No I think I will give this one a miss.If the weather forecast in London rings true there may be some very soggy pillows out there though.
