The UK phone hacking scandal continues to plague the government. Today six people have been arrested as part of the police investigation Operation Weeting. Amongst those arrested was Rebekah Brooks and her husband Charlie. This arrest will embarrass UK PM David Cameron. That is it should do.
Mrs Brooks and her husband have links to Mr Cameron. Charlie was at Public School Eton, that home of so many powerful UK people, with David Cameron. Mrs Brooks however also had a too friendly relationship with David Cameron. She did with former UK PM Tony Blair too. It is fair to say that she had reached a powerful position in Rupert Murdoch's UK arm of his business. How is not clear.
In 2003 Mrs Brooks "let the cat out the bag" somewhat when she went on record as saying that UK police had been paid for information. Sat by her side Andy Coulson quickly tried to backtrack and operate a damage limitations exercise. There was however no getting away from what she had said.
Mr Coulson went on to be employed as David Cameron's Communication chief early in Cameron's premiership. Cameron promised that if wrong doing was uncovered he, that is David Cameron, would be held accountable but to date he has not. It seems that David Cameron has been able to sail close to the wind with his Murdoch buddies and remain unscathed, Whether he can continue to do so is anyone's guess. IMHO it is getting to the stage when any other politician would have to be seriously considering resigning from the role of UK PM.
