It is ironic, sad and laughable just how many times countries in the West have sold arms to other countries, only to find that said country becomes an enemy sooner or later. Gun running is abhored, and rightly so, but so many Western leaders play that game all the time.
Cameron has today signed a deal with the government of Japan. Japan usually restricts this sort of deal to the US and so in some ways it is a scoop for David Cameron. As China continues to expand and dominate trade and markets it is hoped today's deal will offer a sense of balance. Cameron has secured a defense weapons deal with his Japanese counterpart Yoshihiko Noda. Both men stressed that a launch of at least one project that will“contribute to both our countries’ security and peaceful intent” was their aim.
Opinion: The World right now wants to reign in Iran and North Korea's weapon making capabilities but is happy to expand it elsewhere. A sensible decision or stacking up trouble for a future date?
