There are breaking news reports that Gaddafi's heir apparent is fleeing Libya for Niger.
In the past few months there have been many reports regarding Saif. Some have claimed that he was captured, others that he was dead and yet more that he had fled Libya already.

He is said to be close to the border of Libya and Niger but of course this could be a decoy trail. However if what has happened recently is anything to go by such a decoy strategy seems unlikely.
There are reports that the ethnic Tuaregs are helping Saif gain a safe passage out of Libya. The President of Niger is said to have been liaising with the Tuaregs who were staunch supporters of Gaddafi. It is thought that Saif will pass over the border with Algeria and then make his way into Niger.
Remaining living family members of Muammar Gaddafi are already in the relative safety of Niger. Saif is wanted by the ICC, international criminal court. Niger's President Boula said, "If he comes here, the government will accept him, but the government will also need to respect its international obligations. It's up to him to decide (whether to stay on the run or come to Niger)."
