Britain's Got Talent kicked off in the UK Saturday March 24, 2012. It had the usual run of brilliant, eccentric and awful performers. This year however more than a smattering of weird, eccentric performers were put through. Could this be down to new judge, David Walliams. David, most famous for his work on Little Britain is a wacky comedian himself.
That said for part of the audition stage Amanda Holden was replaced by Carmen Electra. It definitely seemed that she and Walliams were singing from the same song sheet.
BGT kicked off on ITV as The Voice UK on the BBC ended its first episode. In the TV ratings war BGT won but both shows grabbed a huge chunk of viewers. Had they aired together who can say?
So the stand out performers who were put through to the next stage will be seen again. Off the eccentric acts that were put through two for this blogger stood out, for very different reasons. German singer Dennis Egel dressed to kill ended up hilarious and surprisingly was put through. The other act was gay couple The Sugar Dandies. The two guys danced together and after the usual sideways glances by the audience and the judges were put through. As the judge agreed their love for ach other shone through.
Only in the UK? Maybe. The couple met at a gay choral conference in Tamper in Florida. They explained: “We’ve been together for 16 years and we got married 5 years ago. Soran proposed I think after 5 days, is that right? I think it was 5 days. I think we’ve always known that we were going to be together. It’s said that Ballroom dancing is the closest thing to flying that a human being will ever experience and I think that’s probably what it feels like to dance with someone you love. I can’t really imagine my life without him.”
Britain's Got Talent 2012 had its Susan Boyle moment. Charlotte and Jonathon were an unlikely partnership. She 16, slim and pretty. He 17 and a rather chunky young man. It had took Jonathon a great deal of courage to perform. He could only do so with the support of Charlotte. They wowed the audience. In some ways their voices clashed but the partnership was sent through. As Simon Cowell said Charlotte sings well but Jonathon has a stand out voice and is a future star. Jonathon however said it was the duo or nothing.
The competition continues, and updates will follow.
