Railway Museum York, Yorkshire

A visit to the Railway Museum at York, Yorkshire, is a must for tourists visiting the region. Situated in close vicinity to York's modern train station it is easy to locate. One of the bonuses about this fantastic museum is that it is free to enter. Donations of course are gratefully accepted. There is a "suggested donation" of £3 but the choice is yours. Even at £3 York Railway Museum offers great value for money.

A "tourist train" operates between York Minster and the Railway Museum these days. The walk however is not that bad. Adult fare, at time of writing, for a single one way ticket on the tourist train is £2 and concessions apply. This small tourist train is similar to ones found in Spain, the Balearics and Portugal.

The NRM is divided into separate exhibition rooms. These are large to say the least.

The National Railway Museum is an impressive museum. The variety of train engine and memorabilia is huge. Outside in South Yard the Hogwart's Express, from the Harry Potter saga, was wowing young fans. The engines in the Great Hall include the Japanese Bullet train, modern UK engines, The Mallard, old royal engines and more.

Close to the entrance / exit of the museum there is a shop selling a wide range of tourist memorabilia. Be warned it is not cheap. Refreshments are available on site.
