Funding for his election campaign was hastily withdrawn by the Tea Party. Romney and his deputy Paul Ryan quickly put as much distance as they could between themselves and Akin but we all know what happens when the proverbial hits the fan.
President Obama and his campaign team have been quick to utilise Akin's words. Gaffes and errors by each side helps the opposition no end. GOP politicians will hope that this one goes away quickly whilst the Democrats will want it to stick around.
It just shows how we should all weigh our words carefully. It could be that all this has done is show the real Mr Akin. It could of course be that in saying "legitimate rape" he was misunderstood.
Either way he appears to now be dead in the water" As yet he has refused to resign but instead has opted for a video apology in which he asks for forgiveness. The electorate may forgive but the Election campaign managers will not. According to Akin he has not been asked to resign but there is no doubtig that heavy hints have been given. Expensive political ads funded by the Superpacs have been withdrawn. That must send him a clear message.
Akin can continue to ignore calls for his resignation but his Senate election campaign will not survive now that GOP funding has been withdrawn. Mr Akin was only chosen to stand for election in the Missuori Senate race last week and already his election dreams have turned into a nightmare.
There is another saying abot politics, you know. Politics is a dirty business. It sure is!
