With the UK government debating the thorny issue of the country's continuing membership of the EU, casualties were expected. Parliament is still chewing the fat and the vote is not expected until around 9.30 pm this evening, October 24, 2011.

The Conservative PPS, personal private secretary, to the Europe Minister has tended his resignation in order to be able to vote in a free manner.

Adam Holloway is therefore the first official casualty of the Referendum. He has chosen to stand by his principles and plans to vote YES for a referendum. Mr Holloway said he has received many requests from his constituents to vote YES. As political party whips are set to try and enforce a NO vote he feels he has little alternative. He has shown backbone and in some ways backed himself into a corner. He can now however vote as he would want to,

Will others follow? Probably.

If a YES vote is secured the government does not have to see it through butcouldt will undermine their authority and unity, either way.
