It has been announced that another UK soldier has been killed in Afghanistan. The MoD website carries an announcement on their home page which reads:
"A soldier serving with the 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was killed during a foot patrol to disrupt insurgent activity on Friday 27 January 2012 in the Khar Nikah region of Nahr-e Saraj, Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
As at 27 January 2012, a total of 397 British forces personnel or MOD civilians have died while serving in Afghanistan since the start of operations in October 2001.
Of these, 352 were killed as a result of hostile action. 45 are known to have died either as a result of illness, non-combat injuries or accidents, or have not yet officially been assigned a cause of death pending the outcome of an investigation. The balance of these figures may change as inquests are concluded."

"It is with great sadness that the Ministry of Defence must announce that a soldier serving with 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was killed in Afghanistan today, Friday 27 January 2012.
Serving as part of Combined Force Nahr-e Saraj (North), the soldier was a member of an International Security Assistance Force foot patrol to disrupt insurgent activity in the Khar Nikah region of Nahr-e Saraj district, Helmand province, when he received a fatal gunshot wound.
Spokesman for Task Force Helmand, Lieutenant Colonel Gordon Mackenzie, said:
"It is my very sad duty to inform you that a soldier serving with 1st Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment was fatally wounded in an insurgent attack while on a foot patrol to disrupt insurgent activity in the Khar Nikah area of Nahr-e Saraj district in Helmand province. Our deepest condolences are with his family and friends at this tragic time."
The soldier's family have been informed and have asked for a period of grace before further details are released"
