Yesterday representatives of the government of Iran threatened that the country could and would close the Strait of Hormuz if further sanctions were levied against it. Iran is currently playing war games of its coast.

All countries do this from time to time. Sometimes it is a dry run designed to ensure systems are working well. Other times it is as a show of strength. The latest news is that an American aircraft carrier has been spotted in the vicinity . It has been identified as the John C. Stennis. America has a naval base on the island of Bahrain but it will not be coincidental that the American vessel was seen near to the Iranian war games.

The US have now claimed that their presence close to the Gulf at this time was for valid reasons. These were that the American navy was offering support to allied troops in Afghanistan. The aircraft carrier John C. Stennis was accompanied by guided-missile cruiser Mobile Bay and several other vessels.

Iranian authorities have said,
An Iranian vessel and surveillance plane have tracked, filmed and photographed a US aircraft carrier as it was entering the Gulf of Oman from the Persian Gulf. he foreign fleet will be warned by Iranian forces if it enters the area of the drill."

The American Fleet is more powerful than that of Iran but is not to say that conflict could not follow.

The policy director at the Just Foreign Policy think-tank said, "It is understood in the international political discourse that an embargo is an act of war. If it really is the policy pursued by the US and Western Europe to try to cut off Iran’s oil exports, then that is an act of war. It would not make sense for Iran to roll over.”

Presumably the same applies if Iran threatens to close the Strait and blockade oil being shipped to the West.

Questions:  Is Iran developing Nuclear weapons? Is this all another American ploy in order to get their hands on Middle Eastern oil? Is the West hell bent on crippling the Middle East?

Sadly this writer has no answers. It is up to the reader to decide. Right now it all stinks.
