Picture paints a thousand words
Wayne Rooney's checkered football career appears to be in the doldrums right now. Today, Saturday January 7, 2012, there have been conflicting reports about his position at Manchester United. Man U is a much loved UK football team with a veritable army of fans across the UK and the globe. They have had a consistently good football record.
Every dog has its day though.
Like any football team they have had some lows among the highs. Currently Man U are in a low period. They have lost too many games lately and Man U boss Sir Alex Ferguson, it is safe to say, is not a happy bunny.
Sir Alex has been a terrific manager for the team but he is not a man to cross. David Beckham and Sir Alec had a close knit working relationship for many years. Times changed and the pair could never regain that bond. Beckham was on the move and a new star was on the horizon.. That was Wayne Rooney.
Rooney joined Man U from Liverpool and began an illustrious football career. Like so many young men in football big money went to his head and his personal life went into free fall. He is now married to Coleen but their marriage has been a rather bumpy ride.
Rooney has been off football form, especially since Christmas 2011. He has not played in all the Man U matches lately but when he has he has not performed well. Ths has led to speculation that he could be on his way out. In January there is a transfer window open and many feel that Sir Alex will use it to off load Rooney.
Just where he would go is a problem.
In the past Wayne threatened that he would leave and secured a ridiculously high fee to stay. He has not lived up to expectations though. At least not recently.
There are telling signs, when you look at video footage and images of Rooney and Sir Alex. Rooney's heart seems to be anywhere but Man U and the boss, Sir Alex, can hardly bear to acknowledge him. Not a good working relationship.
So could it be Wayne Rooney coming to a pitch near you? Could be.
UK footballer Wayne Rooney is in his footballing prime. Well almost. Many feel he passed his prime a year or so ago but he still shows moments of greatness.
Playing football for the England squad and top UK team Manchester United he is both rich and famous. A secure future should be on the cards for Wayne.
The news reprots today which have stated that Wayne's father and uncle are amongst a group of people arrested for illegal betting, will have not done his football career any good though
Wayne's 48-year-old Dad was arrested at his own home in the Derby area of Liverpool. Early today media sources reported that Scottish footballer Steve Jennings had also been arrested. The arrests are in connection with suspicious gambling patterns, involving a match between the Motherwell side and Hearts last December.
Jennings is also from the Liverpool area. In last December's match he received a yellow card early in the game. An increase in bets in the Liverpool area that Jeenings would be sent off followed. His sending off in the 84th minute saw bookies paying out huge somes of money on these bets.Of course it could have been a coincidence. However UK authorites were concerned enough to investigate and today arrested nine people. A police spokesperson told SkyNews in a statement that, "Detectives have today executed warrants at 10 addresses across Merseyside and Glasgow and arrested nine men as part of an investigation into suspicious betting activity. The arrests are the culmination of a joint operation with the Gambling Commission and the nine who have been arrested for conspiracy to defraud are being interviewed by detectives. Those arrested are a 29-year-old from Bootle, a 48-year-old from West Derby, a 54-year-old from Norris Green, a 26-year-old from Croxteth, a 22-year-old from Kirkdale, a 31-year-old from Litherland, a 68-year-old from Fazakerley, a 36-year-old from Kirkby and a 26-year-old from Glasgow."
Jennings denies any wrongdoing.
