Yesterday, Sunday August 5, 2012, there was yet another mass shooting in the US.  Following so soon after the Aurora cinema killing you may have expected the airways to be full of the story. Far from it. In the UK it took second place to the Olympics. In the UK that may be no surprise as it seems all major news events have been lost under excessive Olympic reporting. Is it that those in power want us indoctrinated into a flush of patirotism we wonder.

Still that aside there were some reasons that sprung to mind, rightly or wrongly, for the lack of media reports for the scene of the crime. The shootings took place at a Sikh Temple. You can make up your own reasons on that one, as to why it would affect the level of reporting. There were less people killed than in Aurora, although there have been reports that seven have died.

Then today there is news that could expain the situation further. The as yet unofficially named shooter, is said to one Wade Michael Page, 40, a former soldier. It has been claimed that he was previously stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

The shootings happened as worshippers at the Sik Temple in Wisconsin prepared to hold a service. A policeman called to the scene was shot and injured during the carnage. He shot and killed the gunman in order to prevent further loss of life.

The dead inlciude a president of the congregation and a priest. Names and identities have not been released as yet. Three people remain gravely injured.

The gunman used a weapon legally owned. Once again the argument that most gun crime and terror in the US is by way of illegal weapons does not stand true. The man, beleived to be Page, apparently gave no warning signs of what was to come. Rueters carries the full story here

Wisconsin has liberal gun laws. Since 2011 citizens have been legally allowed to carry a concealed weapon. Whilst as yet the motive for the murders is not known there has been speculation that it was race and faith orientated. It seems that for some the difference between Muslims and Sikhs is not clear. Why that would affect law abiding citizens of any faith though is not clear.

Race and faith hatred once led to millions of men, women and children being marched to death in German Gas Chambers. Those who preach such hatred these days, and there are many, should take note. A mass killing could be small compared to the bigger picture.

Eye witnesses have reported that the killer had a tattoo remembering 9/11. The FBI has taken over the investigation calling it for now "domestic terrorism". Hmm
