Yesterday the news broke that Kate, Duchess of Cambride, is pregnant. The announcement came earlier than the royal couple had hoped due to ill health. Kate is said to be suffering from an extreme form of morning sickness, Hyperemisis Gravidarum. Rather than morning sickness it can be a 24/7 sickness leading to health concerns.
We wish her and husband William well.
Our gripe is that already the media is full of this news. Yes we are following suit but that is to have a little rant. UK news channels have people such as Cameron speaking for all the nation congratulating the royals. This is the man who is PM of the UK and whose Chncellor will be hitting the incomes of ordinary families in tomorrow's Autumn Statement.
Current coalition policies include limiting child benefit so that it is only paid to families with two or less children, The Tories are loathe to take it away from families with good incomes.They prefer this option which will obviously hit the low incomed in the UK.
No such worry of course for William and Kate. She did not have to wat for a hospital bed yesterday only to be sent home or admitted to an inappropriate hospital ward. She was not told that if this pregnancy meant she could not return to work she would be out of pocket.
Today the news reporters on UK TV have talked about everything to do with Kate's pregnancy including prvacy for the child as it grows up, succession to the throne and so much more. Kate is less than 12 weeks pregant, in case they forgot.
Yes the royal couple will need some privacy, but of course when it suits that family court publicity. As you sow so you reap.
For republicans, such as this blogger, the period leading up to the wedding of Kate and William was dismal. Then there followed the Jubilee hot on its tail. Royal overdose.
Yes the rest of the World loves the royals and so do many in the UK. The USA that is so enamoured with the British Royal Family should remember that they only love them from afar. They did not want to stay a part of the Royal Empire, did they?
When Chancellor Osborne delivers yet another killer budget tomorrow it needs to be listened to and pulled apart in order to understand the impact. Many of the British public will get caught up in this royal nonsense and be caught off guard. Do not be one of them.
