Roman Catholic priest Erik Jose Dejaeger has been returned to Canada from Belgium. He fled charges of child sex abuse and a prison term 16 years ago. He was working as a Christian missionary in Canada’s far north, Nunavet, and the abuses are alleged to have occurred in the village of Igloolik.
This was not the first of his offenses in his role as a RC priest. He served five years in prison for his acts against children in the settlement of Baker Lake.
There is currently a publication ban on the court proceedings in order to protect Dejaeger’s alleged victims.
