Sad news indeed from the world of music today. Whitney Houston one of the most successful female singers of the 80s and 90s has been found dead in her hotel room. Born on August 9, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, she was aged just 48.Whitney's voice stunned audiences around the world with its powerful yet evocative style. Famous for singing the theme from the Bodyguard, in which she also starred, Whitney seemed to have it all. A battle with drugs and what turned out to be a volatile marriage to singer Bobby Brown put paid to that. Roy Orbison's widow Barbara dies aged 60
It has been announced that sadly Barbara Orbison, the widow of legendary singer Roy, died yesterday, Tuesday, December 6, 2011. She died on the day which was the 23rd anniversary of Roy's death.
Barbara was aged 60 and died at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, surrounded by family members. She had been suffering from pancreatic cancer. Since the death of Roy Orbison Barbara had worked hard to keep his musical legacy alive. With one of her sons she produced a four CD box set of many of Roy's recordings, some of which had never been released before. One of the leading light's of the sixties folk music scene has died at the age of 67.Bert Jansch was a founder member of the band Pentangle. He was classed at the time as in the league of American musician Bob Dylan if not even his musical equal. Jansch was born Herbert Jansch in Glasgow on November 3, 1943. Monkee Davy Jones dies aged 66
Media sources are reporting the death of Davy Jones, once a member of that sixties pop sensation, The Monkees. He was aged 66. Classed as the lead singer of The Monkees. Jones was an established child star prior to finding musical success. He appeared in early episodes of British soap Coronation Street and UK police series Z Cars before moving to pastures new.
