Lesson Six
There are a wealth of websites out there offering you the opportunity to blog or write articles, reports and reviews. The first consideration needs to be "do you want to make money?". If you are one of these writers who simply wants to share your thoughts and network then in many ways deciding where to write is relatively easy. The problem if you want to make money could be wasting valuable time and effort on a project which will come to nothing. Remember though that some sites will continue to earn money for you, by way of passive income, long after you have moved on. You may have to pop back occasionally, check the latest rules and tweet or the like but effort will be minimal.

There are also websites where, without continual input, your earnings will return to square one each new month. Allvoices and Examiner appear to operate that way. Once you have committed to such sites it can be hard making the break, especially if times are tough. Try not to sell yourself short though. Remember if you do there could be someone reaping rich rewards for your efforts.

Perhaps another consideration of importance to you will be the credibility, honesty and character of a particular site. This may sound a little highfaluting but it may be important. Some sites have close links to particular political parties, link to pornography, allow spam and the like.

The easiest way to test the water for your writing is probably with a free blog via blogger or word press and a review writing website. You could learn the art of posting before you expand your portfolio of work. Here are some websites where this blogger has written in the past or currently. The list includes some she has not got around to trying. All at time of writing offer good opportunities but you have to bear in mind the ownership of sites can change along with their incentive schemes.

Review websites: EPinions, Ciao, Dooyoo
Writing freelance for a third party: Elance, Constant content
Article writing: Helium, Infobarrel, Triond Xomba, Hubpages, Associated content, Wizzley, Squidoo, Ehow.
News writing which does not pay: Newspublic, Blottr

The majority of sites are US based. Simply search online for the name to see if they are co.uk or .com. Most allow UK writers to participate and earn but check out the rules for examiner and associated content as both these are probably still only available for US users. You may still be able to contribute but could be excluded from incentives.

There are of course many more writing opportunities online. Some are here today and gone tomorrow. The sites shown above are all fairly longstanding. As such they should be consistently available but you never know.
