The security company G4S has a long, bad record. These days it is responsible for the running of prisons in the UK and is well known for losing prisoners or allowing prisoners to escape. G4S personnel have even been known to put a security tag on the wrong leg of a criminal, which was in fact a false leg. Hardly instills confidence does it?

A whistleblower from G4S stated this week that the G4S checks on applicants for security work at the Olympics was a shambles. It would seem that this statement is true as police have arrested two security guards who were in fact illegal immigrants but who had been were hired by the company to work at the Olympic games.  The men arrested were from Pakistan. They were employed at the East Midlands Security branch and would have worked at the Coventry Ricoh Arena, the Olympic venue where 12 football matches are to be played.

UK Ministers pointed out that the same hopeless G4S company could be used for front line jobs because of the Tory’s cuts. Yes, incredible as it is, you read  that right.  The Ministry of Defence stated that it would employ such firms “routinely over a range of services.”

It is incredible that such an incompetent company could even be considered, instead of the Army. Surely G4S would also charge twice as much as what soldiers are paid? Have the directors friends in the right places, we wonder? Is it yet more privatisation?

Shadow Defence Secretary Jim Murphy said: “By relying on contractors to cover the cuts, they are increasing risk. If the army is to have contractors, they must be the best. But after the last few days, G4S has a lot to prove.”

Ms Theresa May, Home Secretary, has managed to get herself into the limelight again, for all the wrong reasons.  It was announced that more staff will be needed to secure the safety of the Olympics. It is assumed that there will be another 2,400 soldiers called upon. These are battle weary soldiers and many have just returned to the UK from Afghanistan. Now the Armed Forces plan to deploy 19,000 troops, which is apparently twice as many as in Afghanistan.

David Cameron has failed once again to step down hard on Ms May. Instead he simply said that they want to ensure the safety and security of the Olympics. Is the public allowed to ask just what Ms May and G4S are being paid for?

David Beckham, currently playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, is hoping to be included in the London 2012 England Sqad.  Beckham s stated that he told Team GB boss Stuart Pearce that he would like to be considered for the sqad. He is currently on the stand-by list.   David Beckham is very patriotic and since the Olympics is to held in his country he would love to be part of it.   David said: "For myself to be involved it would huge. Being from the East End of London where the Olympics is held, would be even more special."

Olympic rules require that a player must be 23 or younger, however each team may have three players older than 23.  Brazil has already named their squad. which include Ronaldinho and Chelsea's David Luiz. So far the FA called 279 players for their availability. The players expressed interest were Liverpool' Joe Cole, who is on loan to French club at Lille,  Tottenham Gareth Bale and Chelsea Josh McEachran on loan at Swansea.

David Beckham has had a huge career in both the English Premier League and Internationally.  Beckham has made 115 appearances for England to date and an Olympics would certainly be a feather in his cap.

Beckham said he is always proud to represent his country, whether it be the Olympics, European Championships or friendly.  He said he will work hard to keep himself fit and hopes to be selected.   Despite his reputation, Beckham may have a difficult road to follow at the age of 36.

The London 2012 Olympics are drawing nearer and we have only 165 days to wait. Dwain Chambers is in full training and will compete and defend his title in Istanbul. His ambitions were such that he crashed through the barrier in Sheffield at the end of a 60metre World Indoor trials yesterday, February 22, 2012. He managed a speed of 6.58 secs which gave him a win.

In 2003 Mr Chambers was banned from competing after testing positive for the steroid TGH. This verdict brought him a standard world-wide ban for two years. This would have devastating for any top athletics at that time of his life and career but Dwain Chambers started to fight back in every way. He kept up with his training and fought, in court, before the Beijng Olymics in 2008.

He stated that it is different this time with another Olympics coming up. He has not to undertake the fight himself and can concentrate on his training. Furthermore he doesn’t want to be in court himself again. Chambers said: “I think about London (meaning the Olympics) and no matter what happens I must be prepared. If the door opens then at least I am prepared properly and can compete to the best of my ability" “I have been concentrating this winter on training for the 100m if the possibility to compete happens. If not, I’ll go to the European Championships in Helsinki this summer.”

If the BOA, British Olympic Authority, loses their case in court, Dwain Chambers and David Millar, the cyclist, will be able to compete in the Olympics 2012.  The Mail online reported early in 2012, "The British Olympic Association bylaw which enforces a lifetime Olympic ban on drugs cheats will face legal scrutiny by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on March 12. The BOA have challenged the decision by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) that the lifetime ban is 'non-compliant' with their code".

Opinion:  Whether they are found guilty of having taking drugs or not it must be time to move on. For Chambers it was 2003 when he was accused and surely it should be laid to rest now. Furthermore, quite a number of athletes were accused of the same thing but later on it was proven that the test was not accurate. The attitude of Mr Chambers, after the devastating result, is to be admired.
