When you are the favourite to win, the other contestants may want to attack you. In doing so it can strengthen their chances of being victorious or damage their own chances of winning. It is all about getting the right balance. Go too far and you could look pathetic as to you try to prove that you are winning material. This is what GOP candidates are in danger of doing.

With Mitt Romney appearing to be streets ahead in the polls his opponents are pulling out all the stops to shorten his lead. At times it is hard to realise that they are all supposedly on the same side. It feels more as if they are political enemies rather than political allies. Such is life and such is politics. Both can be a dirty business.

American people must despair of these hard hitting expensive political campaigns. As the people face economic problems, watching a possible new President squander wealth on ads to damage his political allies has to be galling. If you added together all the money spent on one US presidential race, for both parties, you could probably solve many of that nation's economic woes.

Today January 14, 2012, Rick Santorum has followed Newt's lead and begun to attack Mitt Romney also, He attacked Romney's previous record on US healthcare. This subject is dear to many Americans and one President Obama is often knocked for.

In truth of course each GOP candidate has been name calling their opponents from day one. Now the nomination race is in full swing any methods available are being utilised. Between now and the South Carolina primary  a lot could change. That is assuming that the bulk of those who will vote have not already made up their minds.

After Rick Santorum's success in Iowa, New Hampshire dealt a crushing blow to his campaign. It is not over yet though. Far from it. However Rick Santorum and others will be hoping to revitalise their campaigsn in South Carolina. There is still a long way to go. How many more damaging counterproductive ads the American republicans can stand is hard to assess. If it was this blogger, it would be none.
