_Many animal lovers love the idea of starting their own animal rescue
group, but I wonder how many realise just how hard it can be to do so.
Certainly the saying 'Mighty Oaks From Small Acorns Grow' is very true
but it is no good just jumping in blindly. There are many issues to
consider such as funding, shelter, staffing and legal issues. However,
all that said, some shelters begin simply by one person taking a rescued

RSPCA struggles under record levels of animal cruelty
The UK likes to think of itself as a nation of animal lovers. That is it used to. With so many reports of dreadful acts of animal cruelty in the UK it would be easy to think the reverse is true and that we were a nation of animal abusers. The RSPCA is one organisation that attempts to fight animal cruelty in the UK but it is suffering under the weight of a significant increase in animal abuse. The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has been in operation since the early 1800s. Today's news of the charity's struggle to survive is sad news. It shows just how far we still have to go. ___In the early 1800's, when the RSPCA was founded, cruelty was a way of
life for many people. With man's inhumanity to man resulting in the
dreadful treatment of children, women, the sick and the infirm I suppose
animals were way down the list of those needing help. True poverty was
evident where ever you looked and reforms were needed in many ways.
Thankfully some individuals were striving to help mistreated animals.
After a couple of failed attempts to set up a society to help animals
finally a meeting of like minded individuals resulted in the formation
