I'm a Celebrity get me out of Here and X Factor are over and done with for the forseeable future. In the UK a huge swathe of the population love such shows. The Fly on the Wall reality show remains as popular as ever.

Big Brother's Channel 4 journey may have ended but fear not BB fans. Channel 5 is now at the helm and last night, January 5, 2012, the latest UK Celebrity Big Brother show kicked off.

It may not get the huge viewing audiences of old but for many it will  entertain during the long winter days and nights.

Celebrity Big Brother is in many ways more funny and entertaining than plain old BB. The fact that it is celebrities being made to look foolish appeals to viewers. The contestants mistakes boost the viewers confidence. It shows that celebrities are only human beings after all.Viewing celebrities, warts and all, can be such fun.

The first show in the series was launched amidst the usual fanfare. This year's contestants are the usual mixed bag of celebrities, sort of celebrities, young and old. For 2012 the Celebrities are:
  • Georgia Salpa
  • Natalie Cassidy
  • Frankie Cocozza
  • Gareth Thomas
  • Nicola McLean
  • Natasha Giggs
  • Kirk Norcross
  • Andrew Stone
  • Denise Welch
  • Michael Madsen
  • Romeo
  • Kristina and Karissa Shannon
A motley bunch of semi celebrities. After all Frankie Cocozza for example is only famous for being a contestant on the Last X Factor series. He became famous as the bad boy of the show and in due was booted off.

Still fans will be in for more of the BB mayhem. The first show had Natalie Cassidy, ex Eastenders actor, having to greet fellow housemates as directed by BB. an earpiece told her just what to say. She was certainly given some embarrassing lines. Natalie told the housemates,

"Did I tell you what they made me say to Michael? They told me to ‘Run over to Michael and tell him he’s your biggest fan’, so I did and he said ‘Thank you’.

“Then they said ‘Sit down and say how much you loved him in Free Willy’ and I had to do it! He said ‘That’s really nice, because a lot of people don’t remember me for that but I had a great time.’”

Georgia Salpa then asked: “Oh he was in Free Willy?”

To which Natalie replied, laughing: “I hope so!”

Earth shattering conversation it is not. Silly fun it is. Call back soon for the next update.
