 David Beckham has announced his retirement from football a week after his former Manchester United boss announced he was retiring as the club's manager. David Beckham may have not been England's finest football player ever, but he is perhaps the UKs most famous player. News that he is about to hang up his boots and retire from football has attracted a great deal of attention. Becks is known as much for his hairstyles down the years, his marriage to Victoria formerly Posh Spice, his skills as a Dad, his tattoos and his brand. David may be retiring from football.............more

Giro d'italia Stage 13: Wiggins forced to withdraw

The Giro continues to claim its victims. Today Bradley Wiggins, Sky, was forced to withdraw due to illness. Wiggins has been suffering from a chest infection and yesterday saw him slip further in the standings. The team doctor advised that he need to return to Britain to get treatment and recuperate. It is a blow to the top cyclist who was in contention to win the Giro and pair it with a win at the Tour de France in July. Last year’s Giro winner, Ryder Hesjedal, Garmin, was also forced out of the race due to illness. He had been struggling since Stage 8 time trials, at one point being evacuated .....more

British comedy actor Paul Shane dies aged 72

British comedy actor Paul Shane has died aged 72 following a short illness. Paul became a popular TV comedy actor after taking on the role of Ted Bovis in the BBC series Hi-De-Hi. Set in a holiday camp in 50s or 60s Britain the "yellow coats" were an obvious parody of Butlin's "red coats". The series was aired in the 80s and soon came a firm favourite with viewers. Seventy years on Britain remembers the Dambusters

Thursday, on the 70th anniversary of the "bouncing bomb" dambuster's air-raid in Germany a flypast at Derwent reservoir will mark the event. The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and 617 Squadron will fly over the distinctive towers at the reservoir recreating the dambusters mission.  ..........................more

UK: Seven men guilty of child sex abuse, grooming and trafficking

This story feels like another day in the UK, another sex scandal or abuse case. Tuesday the BBC reported that "seven members of a sex grooming ring had been convicted of abusing children from Oxford. An Old Bailey jury heard six girls were drugged and suffered sadistic abuse while aged between 11 and 15." .....more
