A twitter buzz broke out after Canadian MP Pat Martin blamed the tight underpants he was wearing for his hasty exit from parliament during a vote.
A debate with a person-by-person vote was underway when Martin quickly made for the door. The speaker of the house was not impressed and ordered Martin to sit down. Martin ignored the request and fled.
He did return later in time to vote and offered his bizarre explanation. He clams he bought a job-lot of cheap underway which it turns out is too small for him. This makes it difficult to sit for long periods of time.
Canadian politicians must be sorely underpaid if they buy cheap ill-fitting undies and then feel they must wear them. Surely you would just bin them or take them back to the store?
The speaker of the house says he did not understand Martin's explanation at the time or since which was "They had men's underwear on for half price and I bought a bunch that was clearly too small for me. I find it difficult to sit for any length of time."
Twitter users went for the obvious pun about politicians that are not very well briefed.
