Fashion advice for plus-size girls

Picture
As someone whose weight and body shape has varied greatly over the years, I know how hard it is to feel right in your clothes when you feel fat. So the first point is feel confident. When you feel good, and feel that you do look good, invariably you will do so. Have a little faith in yourself. Some helpful tips are:-

  • Wear slightly longer jackets and tops, but not too long.
  • Wear clothes that fit you properly. Do not try and hide in baggy clothes, as you will only make yourself look bigger. Similarly do not squeeze yourself into clothing which is two sizes too small, you will not look good.
  • If you have curves show them off and be proud of them.
  • When you decorate it is stressed that preparation is everything, in ensuring that the finished result is good. Well so is your underwear when you are dressing. Wear the correct size and, if you need to, have a professional take measurements for your Bra and having a proper fitting done. A good fitting Bra can do wonders for your shape. If flesh bulges out of, or hangs over, your underwear it will make you look ten times fatter.
  • Know your weak spots. If the tops of your arms are flabby, don't wear a strappy top, unless you can incorporate something such as a wrap or bolero jacket.
  • Wear your correct dress size. If you are a size 18 in trousers try them on and buy them. Don't get a size 16 and attempt to squeeze yourself into them. Squeezing yourself into a smaller size is just plain silly.
  • Jeans or trousers of some brands have a better depth from the waistband to the top of the legs. These look better on the fuller figure.

Experiment in order to discover what is right for you. There are lots of fabulous styles now which will allow you to find the right one for your size and age. Personally I would say stay away from fussy and frilly tops or prints which are large and floral.

Ask a good friend along to the shops. He or she can get and give a different perspective on whether something suits you or not. More than anything though have fun and don't take it too seriously. We are all different and that is true of the plus sized girl. It may be that you are top heavy, or that you have a small bust, and bigger hips. If you can work out what basic shape you are it will be easier to decide what flatters your figure and what does not.

What Not to Wear

Picture
One of the first rules, in dressing well when you are plus size woman is, know your clothes size and buy accordingly. It may be tempting to buy a smaller size for a couple of reasons. Plus size girls often buy a smaller size hoping to slim down and eventually fit into their purchase. It may even be that the outfit is purchased as an incentive to loose weight. However nine times out of ten it 'aint gonna happen' Alternatively a plus size girl may refuse to admit to herself that she is really a size 20, and buy a size 16, that she can possibly just squeeze into. The effect will resemble a juicy sausage squeezed into a tight skin. So rule number one is make sure that the clothes you buy fit you well.

Rule two. Plus size girls should avoid styles that are designed to fit like a second skin or be free flowing and too loose. Either extreme will not flatter your body shape. It's much better to have clothes with a slightly relaxed fit.

Rule three. Avoid buying clothes that are made from material with heavy patterns. There are some patterns which will suit but you need to try a few such outfits on in front of a friend and a full length mirror first. Between you both you should soon be able to see how some patterns will just make you seem larger. Tiny polka dots can be very flattering and give a slimline appearance.

Rule four. We all like bright colours, especially in the summer-time but be careful with these if you are a plus size. An outfit totally in bright sunshine yellow, for example, will probably make you look huge. This type of colour will only really work if your are full of confidence. Fashionable earthy tones look great on plus size women. Obviously classic black will be perfect for a fuller figure. You can always add bright accessories.

Rule five. Follow fashion by all means but do so selectively. Mini skirts, short shorts, strappy tops, sleeveless tops, extremely low rise hipster jeans and skin tight leggings are not for plus size girls, unless you don't care what you look like.

Rule six. Shop around the high street and the Internet. There are Internet shopping sites such as 'Simply Be' where there are great styles of clothing for women of all sizes. On the High Street in England there are outlets such as Dorothy Perkins and Evans which carry larger sizes. Evans specifically caters for women who are a plus size. Their stock is fashionable and only a little pricier than other clothes shops.

These days in general 'anything goes' with fashion. It's up to you though to decide if you want to look fabulous or unattractive. I guess we all know which one most of us would choose.

Fashion for plus-sized teens

Picture
Fashion at the moment is quite varied and has a lot to offer the plus size teenager. Many of the retro styles of the seventies look great on a curvy shape. Boot cut jeans and trousers help to make heavy thighs look more balanced and slimmer. Pretty kaftans with bell shaped sleeves and bodies, that fit well, give a modern but flattering look. Steer clear of skinny fit trousers though as you may end up looking like an upside down triangle. Fitted cropped leggings are fine if worn under something like a short dress or kaftan top. Try to avoid skin tight clothes, extremely baggy ones and those that reveal too much flesh. Go for bright colours, such as purple and red, if that is what you like but not paler ones such as yellow and green......More here
