The Occupy Wall Street Movement began in earnest in September 2011. From a small group of protesters a world wide rag taggle army of protesters took to the streets. They have been viewed as inspirational, a nuisance, anarchic, destructive, a real force for change, a peaceful protest and so much more.
Suffice to say they have ruffled authority figures feathers. In spite of the fact than many people claim the occupy movement has no clear objectives they are protesting about inequality and corporate greed. America has struggled to know just how to deal with these protesters but now it has taken action.
In recent weeks and days eviction notices have been served on US makeshift camps temporarily housing the protesters. Authorities have used violent incidents to justify these evictions. However most of the protesters are non-violent. There ia always a rent a mob element of course that jumps on the bandwagon.
When police have gone into camps it has usually been in the dead of night. The element of surprise has been advantageous to authorities. Media coverage of the protests has been limited but the power of the Internet has been utilised.
