The injured at the school were not all stabbed. Some sustained cuts rather than stab wounds but there are some critically injured students. The seriously injured were airlifted to local hospitals.
The area was soon contained and the suspected attacker in custody. The injured are all 14-17-year-old students but later it was revealed a security guard was also injured.
The stabbings happened early, after the school doors had been open for only 15 minutes. Police were called to attend the school by a resource officer around 7:13 a.m.
As it was still early in the day many students had not arrived. Those travelling in to school on school buses were alerted to what was happening which means the tragic events could have been much worse.
It is still a shocking attack, which once again proves we are not safe any place. The gun lobby in the U.S. will no doubt try to use the incident to try to get more guns into schools, either by way of armed treachers or security guards. However putting more weapons into schools is crazy.
The fact that this latest attack was a knife crime rather than gun related is cold comfort.
Mass killings, either by knife or guns, are rare in the UK. Yes they happen but look at the recent frequency of attacks in the U.S.A.
Once again I ask, what is it with the U.S.A. and violent mass attacks?
