It has been a busy year for British Royals not least The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh. Both are now elderly, which many of us tend to forget. They are way past the age a person would normally work till, before retiring. At Sunday's Olympic closing ceremony it was the younger Royals who represented the Queen. It was generally thought this was as the event was late and modern music orientated.
Perhaps though the Duke was not well.
Today Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to hospital. The latest statement is that his admission to hospital is a "precautionary measure". A statement has said that his health is not critical. The Duke however was taken to hospital by Ambulance.
Prince Philip has had periods of ill health since Christmas 2011. Then he was hospitalised for treatment to clear a blocked artery. During the Jubilee celebrations he needed hospital treatment due to a bladder infection.
The Duke tends to be rather hale and hearty but like us all he is getting no younger. He turned 91 in June 2012. The Queen and the Duke remain two of the hardest working individuals in the British Royal Family, attending many events throughout each year. This year though the Duke has been noticeable by his absence at some. He did not attend as many Olympic events as usual. This meant that he missed those which granddaughter Zara was competing in. This was unusual for the Prince.
