The problem is the uprising was popular in the west of Ukraine and western countries but not in the east of Ukraine.
This has led to the pro-Russian activists in the east of Ukraine refusing to recognise an agreement reached late last week in Geneva. The talks involved representatives of the US, Russia, Ukraine and EU. The Ukrainian representatives were from the interim government, unrecognised by those in the east.
Perhaps Russia is still playing its extended chess game with world leaders. Did they know all along that eastern activists would not play ball?
Perhaps more significantly who were the shooters Saturday night?
The Ukrainian crisis is resolvable but only with the will of those involved, and that includes all parties.
