A dispute at an office complex, in central Phoenix, Arizona, resulted in a shooting. Three people sustained bullet wounds, one of the victims died. 70-year-old Arthur D Harmon has been named by police as the suspected gunman.
At time of writing police are searching for this man. A police search of his property proved fruitless.
The building complex was evacuated as police began their search for the shooter. Insurance, medical and law offices are housed in the complex. One worker, Becky Neher, reports hearing someone shout 'We have a shooter'.
The dead man has been named as 48-year-old Steve Singer. He died in hospital, where one of the two other victims remains in a critical condition, having sustained life-threatening injuries. Lawyer Mark Hummels is not expected to survive. A 32-year-old woman recieved non life threatening injury..
Witness statements indicate that the shooting was not a random act. Reports claim that during a heated dispute the attacker pulled out a gun and began shooting.
Ironically the shooting happened as ‘the Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on gun control issues, and former astronaut Mark Kelly broke news of the shooting during his testimony’, reports SkyNews.
Kelly the husband of former Congresswoman, Gabrielle Giffords, appealed for tighter gun laws. Ms Giffords also testified in front of the committee.
Gun supporters continue to claim it is people not guns that kill. Yet again without easy access to a weapon this tragedy would not have happened.
