South African President Jacob Zuma announced Thursday the death of the country’s former leader Nelson Mandela, 95, who died at home in Johannesburg. As South Africa and the world come to terms with the loss of this great man, an inspirational hero to many, a former terrorist to some, tributes have poured in.
Apart from the obvious tributes from presidents, royalty and prime ministers, Hollywood is marking the passing of Madiba.
CNN reports that Hollywood A-listers traditionally stood with Mandela in his fight “against apartheid and his support of human rights.” In death, they wanted to pay their respects. Those paying tribute included Actor Denzel Washington who said he was "honored and humbled to call Nelson Mandela a friend of our entire family” and actor Forest Whitaker, who expressed deep sadness "by the loss of one of the world's greatest souls."
The popular form of condolence in the 21st century is Twitter, which was ablaze with tributes throughout the night and into Friday. A wide range of celebrities, black and white, young and old from around the world tweeted:

Sticking to the 140 character rule of Twitter is never easy but all the above managed to share their thoughts on the death of Mandela to mark his passing. They may have included typos but the tweets were heartfelt.
Mandela died after experiencing a troubled year. His health declined and he was unable to fully recover. However, to have reached such a great age after serving 27 years in the brutal South African prison on Robben Island was an achievement.
Mr. Mandela though was known for a series of achievements and the world has lost a great hero and icon.
Friday Jacob Zuma announced Nelson Mandela will be laid to rest Sunday, Dec. 15, at his ancestral home in Qunu, in the Eastern Cape region of South Africa. His body will lie in state for three days before the funeral and thousands are expected to pay their respects.
