Early Tuesday Russia Today carried a brief breaking news report that Russia's radar had detected the use of ballistic missiles in the eastern Mediterranean region. All that was known was that the missiles had fallen short of landmass. Hours later Israel claims the missiles were launched by a joint Israeli and American venture. According to Russia Today Israel gave the reason as "target practice.
Currently the USA and the UK who both have warships in the region deny any responsibility. Well they deny that their vessels were involved. Syrian authorities have no reports of damage in Damascus or further information. Israel however claims it fired an arrow to space-air missile in a joint test with the USA.
RT's later report said: "The launch took place at 06:16 GMT Tuesday, according to Russia's Ministry of Defense. The trajectory of the missiles is reported to have been from the central part of the Mediterranean Sea towards the eastern landmass. Both rockets have allegedly fallen into the sea, RIA Novosti news agency reported. Russia’s President Putin has already been informed about the incident by Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu."
Sky News reports: "Israel's defence ministry said it had tested a single 'Ankor' target missile, which it said formed part of a US-funded anti-missile system. Two ballistic "objects" were fired towards the eastern Mediterranean from the central part of the sea, Russia's defence ministry had reportedly said. Interfax news agency quoted a ministry spokesman as saying the launch was detected at 10.16 am Moscow time (7.16am UK time) by an early warning radar station at Armavir, near the Black Sea, which is designed to detect missiles from Europe and Iran. Sky News' Foreign Affairs Editor Tim Marshall said: "This is Israel saying 'we can defend ourselves'. They do these tests frequently but they would have chosen today as a reminder (to Israel's enemies).""
Comment: Although Israel has now issued a statement saying it was a joint Israeli US venture America continues to "claim no missiles had been fired from any of its ships in the Mediterranean." Splitting hairs? It reminds this blogger of the Clinton Lewinsky affair. You know ~ I did not have sexual relations with that woman. Oh yeah, define sexual relations Bill?
It strikes this blogger as shameful that the USA, a country facing a fiscal cliff, with high unemployment and people living on food stamps, has money to burn on "target practice".
Whether it is military muscle flexing, adding fuel to fire or part of planned war-games, who knows? A select few? The Elite?
The latest claim is that Israel was testing its defence capabilities.
Never let any person tell you that possible conflict over Syria is all about Sarin Gas and the humanitarian crisis. Oil and Israel have always been at the heart of the matter.
