With claims that the armed kidnappers stormed Mr Khan's property Akbar believes it is a government conspiracy. He said “It's definitely some government agency.” “Common criminals don't act like this to abduct one person.”
A report in the Independent reports scheduled European Parliament visit:
At the weekend, Mr Khan was due to travel to Europe where he was to talk to parliamentarians from Britain, Germany and the Netherlands about the impact of drone strikes.Labour MP Tom Watson, who heads the All Party Parliamentary Group on drones, said Mr Khan was one of several people who had lost relatives to drones who had been invited to present testimony on 25 February.
Khan's lawyer reports the Rawalpindi bench of Lahore High Court has contacted the government asking that the intelligence agencies either release Mr Khan so that he can make his court appearance on February 20 or supply information as to why he was arrested and any charges against him.
Rawalpindi police maintain they were not involved in the raid and have not arrested Khan. So again we ask "where is he then"?
On Tuesday Amnesty International said: "We are concerned that prominent human rights activist Kareem Khan may have been disappeared to prevent him from giving testimony overseas about US drone strikes in Pakistan."
The controversial unmanned drone program operating over tribal areas of Pakistan continues. US authorities claim they take "extraordinary care" to ensure the strikes comply with international law.
Opinion: "Extraordinary care" seems to this writer just more meaningless, bureaucratic gobbledegook. Would it reassure you if such an armed drone was flying over your home, place of work or town? Would you be happy that inevitably innocent men, women and children were also killed in the vague fight against would be terrorists or real insurgents? Perhaps like this writer you would believe that in fact such activity was more inclined to create a new breed of terrorists with hate in their hearts.
911 was a terrible event and many innocent people died. In order to prevent another 911 the US authorities have killed thousands, if not millions of people, in places like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Libya. The majority were also innocent civilians. How come that is acceptable? Are their lives less worthy somehow?
