On this day, May 3, 2007, a little girl went missing in the Algarve, Portugal. Such disappearances are not unique but remain fairly rare. Little Madeline McCann was on holiday with her parents, Kate and Jerry, and her siblings, when she vanished. Most people will have heard something of this tragedy. To date there have been some reported sightings of Madeline and many rumours but no trace of Maddie has ever been found.
For a time there were questions raised about whether or not the McCann's were involved in whatever happened to Maddie. This has never been truly proved false or true. Most people though believe that the parents were not complicit and that it was just one of those things. Foolishly leaving their children cost them dearly and they need no person to tell them, "If only".
The McCann's appeared on UK TV today, May 3, 2012, as the investigation is once again making headlines. For the McCann's this is all to the good, as it keep's the case of Maddie alive and in the public eye.
In the last week the names of Kate, Jerry and Madeline McCann have been aired more than once. Investigators believe that they now have a fair chance of finding Maddie and solving this mystery. Police are checking evidence but the Portuguese authorities are reluctant to re-open the case.
Maddy was 3-years-old when she went missing and so she will look rather different today. An image created to represent how Maddy may look these days has been made public. Kate McCann said in some ways she finds the image reassuring. It gives her hope that Maddy is still alive and will be found.
Thoughts are sent to the McCann's as they continue their quest to locate and be reunited with their daughter. Good luck to all.
