Yesterday in Mubi, Northern Nigeria, there was a major operation against the Boko Haram terrorist group. Today there is news that at least 20 people have been killed. Was it a revenge attack?
The number of dead is disputed. Some reports state that there were 26 killed others maintain it was more like 40. The majority of the dead were students studying at the Federal Polytechniic Mubi.
Those killed died from gunshot or stab wounds. Boko Harma is believed to be responsible but there is no hard evidence. The killers were dressed in some sort of uniform. The people they targeted though varied. Some were Christians, others Muslims. The assassins definitely had their victims in mind rather than being random attacks.
In reent weeks the authorities have launched several operations aimed at restricting Boko Haram. As retaliation Boko Haram members have damaged mobile phone masts making reporting from the region sketchy. A curfew in the area is being rigorously enforced and now the University is closed. It will remain so for the foreseeable future.
Boko Haram, also known as Jama'atu ahlis sunnah lil daawati wal jihad, want to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state. Currently Christians and Muslims make up the population. Bomb attacks and deaths have been an integral part of their campaign. RIP
Boko Haram have released a video threatenng to attack Northen leaders, officials and their wives
