An attack in the heart of the Belgian city of Liege today has left at least two people dead and many more injured.
Early reports indicate that several men threw grenades into a crowd of people waiting at a bus stop They also opened fire. One gunman is said to have been killed and a further arrested but at time of writing a gun battle is still under way. One report claims that the dead gunman killed himself. by a bullet to the head.
The cause of the attack as yet remains unknown.
Update: Although it is still not clear why this attack happened the perpetrator is now known. It turned out to be an attack by just one man, Nordine Amrani. He was known to local police. There are reports that he was due to be charged with drug offences. He was also known to the police for weapons offences.
The early reports that three men at least attacked the crowd proved false. It was only Mr Amrani. Two teenagers and an older woman were killed in the attack, At least 75 people have been injured. The attacker killed himself. He launched his attack from a rooftop in Liege. RIP
Update December 14: The body of a woman has been found in a shed belonging to the gunman. He reportedly used this shed to grow cannabis. The woman had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
The older woman who was reported as killed in the attack remains in a critical condition in hospital. Around 125 people were injured in the attack, five of whom are still in intensive care hospital units
