"The Kremlin's move comes in response to the grounding of the budget airline subsidiary of Aeroflot as a result of EU sanctions over Moscow's support for rebels in Ukraine" reports the Guardian.

Flight MH17, the blame game
Opinion: The announcement must have been expected. You can hardly expect Russia to sit back and do nothing after sanctions were imposed by the EU, US and other countries.
Now all sides will feel some economic pain; except the USA, the country pushing for sanctions against Russia, hardly trades with that country so is likely to be least affected of all.
Much like the west Russia will have tried to weigh up the cost of any sanctions and implemented ones designed to hit the opposition and cause least damage at home. Will a food import ban lead to hunger in Russia? Will it lead to poverty in all countries involved? Time will tell.
Will this be the end of sanctions? probably not. These matters tend to snowball as each side responds.
You know how sometimes you have an argument with a person, which you allow to fester and continue, until in the end you cannot even remember what your spat was about? That is likely to happen here.
The real reason for the diplomatic fallout will soon be lost as sanction brinkmanship comes into play.
The west perhaps needed to respond but maybe it should have waited for hard evidence on who was actually responsible for downing Flight MH17. It looks increasingly likely that it was not directly Russia. So now the west blames Russia for supplying weapons into parts of the Ukraine and allegedly adding fuel to the fire of hostilities.
As many in the west hang their heads in shame as they look across the world to Gaza, a destroyed country and battered a people, blatant hypocrisy jumps out at even a simpleton.
The USA in particular, and others in the west, perhaps even the UK, are supplying Israel with the means to mete out death and destruction on a tiny country close to Israel - Gaza.

No Sanctions there sadly; however people power in the form of boycotts will hopefully do the job of our pathetic leaders and ultimately help Palestinians
