Many have questioned whether or not his health problems were real or just convenient. Dewani however did insist he would return to South Africa to stand trial once he was well again.
He was kept secure under the U.K. mental health act which prevented him fleeing the country.
A date will now be set in South Africa for his trial.
If Dewani is not fit for trial within 18 months he will be returned to the U.K.
BBC News reports "The South African Department of Justice said Mr Dewani will be taken straight to court after he lands and is expected to appear at Western Cape High Court, where he will be formally charged."
He will be accompanied by a doctor, nurse and police officers during the journey, because he is "a patient and suspect who is in police custody".
The family of Anni Dewani hope for justice and closure after what has been a difficult few years for them.
