There is breaking news that dozens of people have been killed in Syria following an air strike that hit a bakery. As yet details are sketchy and this report will be update when more information is revealed.
If the report proves to be true it will not be the first such attack. In August it was claimed that at least ten civilians were killed by Syrian forces as the people queued for bread. There have been other reports of such attacks, which of course will mainly hit women and children.
The situation in Syria remains a hard one to predict or understand. Just how much manipulation of events is going on is not known.
Update 18.00 GMT
Dozens are reported to have been killed. The incident took place in the town of Halfaya, in the province of Hama. With reports that the number of injured and dead could rise there are fears that this will be one of the deadliest attacks of the Syrian civil war so far. Details have been given by the opposition and have not been independently verified. Currently representatives of the UN and the Arab League are in Syria discussing ways to end the conflict.
December 24, 7.30am GMT
The latest on the attack is that as many as 90 people are feared killed. Gruesome images have been shown on news channels and online. The Assad regime claim that the attack was by terrorists and designed to lay the blame at their door.
The only certainty is that civilians have once more been killed.
