Western leaders contemplating launching military strikes on Syria are allegedly still pondering action but what that action will be is probably already decided. It will have been for sometime. Just how they can sell it to the people remains a big problem.
If you read blogs and participate in social media you will have realised that those loyal to Obama, no matter what he does, are in a minority. They may still bang the drum for military action believing that the truth is irrefutable but more people wonder just what is the truth?
Announcements by foreign secretary William Hague for the UK and Washington spokes people such as Jay Carney are little more than meaningless propaganda. News that the White House will release the information they hold which clearly "proves" that Assad used chemical weapons to kill his own people are also fairly meaningless.
A jaded western population have seen dodgy documents in the past and even a "convenient" suicide by Dr David Kelly, a weapons inspector at the time of the Iraq crisis.
Governments of course tune in to our blogs, emails, phone calls and more, sometimes legitimately, other times not. They are keeping an eye on opinion as they try to get out their version of the "truth". As they ponder which move to take next they already know that bloggers and the media in general are opposed to military action against Syria.
How killing more people, and ravaging a country further, can ease the suffering of its people is not clear. In the short term it will cause more suffering. Many Americans, who do not like Brits quoting their use of the atom bombs in Japan 65 years ago, like to quote other long past atrocities in an attempt to strengthen their argument. Examples such as the spread of the Third Reich in Nazi Germany and how earlier involvement by the USA may have prevented thousands of deaths are used but what about America's use of chemical weapons in Vietnam and beyond?
As we tit for tat, and some bang the drum for war, imagine being a citizen in Syria. Not a member of the army nor the rebels just an ordinary man, woman or child. Lost generations with the prospect of more violence.
Those who think that it is OK to launch another war as there will be "no boots on the ground" use flawed arguments. If CIA operatives and special forces are in Syria there are already boots on the ground. If not a lack of physical military intervention will not come cheap nor will it prevent deaths. If you do not care if those who die are Syrians, that may suit you.
But in the end we claim to be acting as a reprisal againt Syrian deaths at the hands of the regime and to prevent more deaths. Is that just more lies.
Note: Wednesday the British national security council meets. Thursday parliament debates and votes on action. Sometime between now and then, or later, anything may happen.

"An al-Qaeda linked group has threatened a ‘volcano of revenge’ against the Syrian government and military targets in retaliation for the suspected chemical weapons attack in a Damascus suburb last week, Reuters reports. "The meeting factions decided to carry out the "Volcano of Revenge" invasion in response to the regime's massacres against our people in Eastern Ghouta, the last of which was the chemical weapons massacre," the SITE Monitoring Group quotes a statement from a branch of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as saying. "They have decided to strike the main joints of the regime in imprisoned Damascus, including security branches, support and supply points, training centres, and infrastructure," it continued."
