Op-ed: Thursday night Palestinians took to the streets to march in solidarity with the people of Gaza. It was a bloody night.
At least two Palestinians were killed and around 200 injured during the protest. One was shot dead by an Israeli soldier the other by an Israeli settler. Soldiers and border police clashed with protesters at a checkpoint between Ramallah and Jerusalem. Perhaps the protesters were spurred into action Thursday after news that a UN shelter offering refuge was targeted and shelled killing at least 15 people. We say targeted as the Israeli forces knew exactly what the shelter was and its location. They have since tried to back pedal blame claiming it was down to fighting in the area. But yesterday's tragedy was just one incident in a long line.
Since July 8, the start of this period of hostilities, more than 800 Palestinians have been killed. The number of injured is in the thousands. Homes as well as lives wrecked. 35 Israelis have also died in the conflict most are soldiers killed after they invaded Gaza.
