There are probably secret service operatives from various countries working on the ground in the Ukraine and none will in truth be working for the good of the Ukrainian people.
Many countries have a great deal to lose or win, depending how the Ukraine crisis pans out.
The situation remains critical. Ukraine owes a great deal of money. Its gas bill is staggering and the interim leaders have yet to begin paying their debtors.
Those debtors, mainly Russian, will not wait for ever. Just as the U.S. and U.K. use sanctions for leverage Ukraines' debts will provide ammunition for Russia.
Each side blames the other and tries to portray themselves as blameless which is simply not true. Even images allegedly showing Russian troops massing on Ukrainian borders are disputed. The U.S. is using them as a reason to seek tougher sanctions against Russia, but Moscow say they are old images from military trials in 2013.
But even if you take the U.S. and its allies, and Russia, out of the equation there are forces at work inside of the Ukraine who have no desire for an easy peace. With the far-right and other extremist political groups fighting to gain the upper hand peace may remain elsuive.
Ukraine has begun to implode. Just where and when that process will end is unclear.
